Why it isn't bitter

Bitterness in matcha usually comes from leaves that saw too much sun or powder ground too fast and too hot. Ours is neither.

  1. 01

    Shaded 30 days

Covering the Uji tea plants before harvest builds L-theanine and chlorophyll — the sweetness and the colour.

  2. 02

    Steamed into tencha

Leaves are steamed, dried, and stripped of stems and veins, leaving only the tender leaf.

  3. 03

    Stone-ground, slowly

Granite mills take about an hour to grind 40g. Slow means cool, and cool means no scorched taste.

Simrat and Daman, founders of Aroma Blends

Made in Surrey, BC

We started Aroma Blends because good matcha was hard to find here.

We're Simrat and Daman, best friends and matcha drinkers first. We kept running into the same problem: the affordable matcha here tasted bitter, and the good stuff cost a fortune. So we went to the source, ceremonial matcha from Uji, Japan, and set out to bring it to Canadians at a price that works for an everyday latte.

Every batch is tested for heavy metals before it's packed, and we know every café that pours it by name. You'll also find us behind Blended, our matcha and coffee cart, at showers, weddings and events.
